The Everest Base Camp trek is one of the most popular treks in Nepal, it is known for its stunning mountain scenery. The trek takes you through the Khumbu Valley, allowing you to experience the breathtaking beauty of Sagarmatha National Park, including several of the world’s highest peaks. This incredible trek follows in the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay and many other pioneer mountaineers. The trail is well marked and easy to follow, even without a guide. Most trekkers now stay in lodges and teahouses, but camping can be arranged. The Sherpa people are very friendly and happy to offer assistance and support to outsiders.
Reaching Everest Base Camp has become the goal of many enthusiastic trekkers. You can do the EBC trek at any time of the year but the best time to visit this area is spring and autumn. Saying that, if you don’t mind the cold, winter is worth considering when the trails and lodges will be almost empty and the sky clear. The high point of the EBC trek is Kala Patthar, the 5,500m viewpoint above Gorak Shep. In the morning you will witness the sun rising above Mt. Everest, in the evening Everest will glow orange as the sun goes down. There is more to this trek than stunning mountain scenery; not to be missed is the Sherpa museum in Namche Bazaar, the magnificent Buddhist monastery in Tengboche and the Hillary Visitor Center in Khumjung.
