Trip Overview

Druk Path Trek is a short five day trek which leads from Paro to Thimphu or vice versa, crossing the chain of mountains that separates the two valleys. Although the route is sparsely inhabited, there are wonderful lakes teeming with fish and the area is famous for its spectacular rhododendron forests which bloom in May. In the clear weather of late autumn and winter there are great views of the Himalayas.

Season : This trek is usually possible from late February to June and from September to December.

Places Covered : Paro - Jele Dzong - Jangchulakha - Jimilangtso - Phajoding - Thimphu - Punakha - Thimphu - Paro

Druk Path Trek Itinerary

  • Day 1
    Arrive Paro by Druk Air

    Arrive Paro by Druk air BAe 146-100 series, the only national carrier. The flight offers you beautiful view of mountains and landscapes. On arrival and after visa formalities you will be received by Our members. Afternoon / evening time at leisure.
    Overnight at the hotel in Paro.

  • Day 2
    Paro Sightseeing

    Visit Drukgyel Dzong, on the way visit Kychu Lhakhang. After lunch visit National Museum and Paro Dzong.
    Overnight at the hotel in Paro.

  • Day 3
    Paro - Jele Dzong

    Start Trek above the Museum and gradually climb upto Jele Dzong. Atl: 2590m, dist: 7 Kms.
    Overnight at camp.

  • Day 4
    Jele Dzong - Jangchulakha

    The trail takes you through thick alpine forest and rhododendron tree. Camp site at the height of 2900m distance 10 km.

  • Day 5
    Jangchulakha - Jimilangtso

    On the clear day, there are beautiful views of mountains and the valley. Campsite near the lake alt. 3350m. Distance 11 km.
    Overnight at camp.

  • Day 6
    Jimilangtso - Phajoding

    The trail continues with gradual climb. If weather permits, beautiful views of Mount Gangkhar Phunsum can be seen. Campsite near the monastery alt. 3116 m. Distance 21 km.
    Overnight at camp.

  • Day 7
    Phajoding - Thimpu Sightseeing

    The trek to thimpu is down hill through blue pine forest. Distance 8 km. Evening at leisure.
    Overnight at Hotel in Thimpu. 

  • Day 8
    Thimpu - Punakha / Wagdi

    Morning Thimpu sightseeing, visit Memorial Chorten, Painting School, National Library, Bhutanese Hand Made Paper factory. After lunch drive to Punakha across the Dochula Pass (Alt. 3050 m) where one can see the beautiful views of Eastern Himalayan Ranges.
    Overnight at Hotel in Wangdi. 

  • Day 9
    Punakha - Thimphu

    Visit Wangdi Dzong and later visit Punakha Dzong, which is the winter home of Central Monk Body (Je - Khenpo). On the way back visit Chimi Lhakhang and then transfer to Paro.
    Overnight at Hotel in Paro.

    Paro Departure.
