Trip Overview

Mount Manaslu at 8,163m, is the eighth highest mountain in the world. This stunning mountain is popular with mountaineers from across the globe. Mt. Manaslu, also known as Kutang, is in the Mansiri Himal, part of the Nepalese Himalaya in the west-central part of Nepal. Manaslu’s long ridges provide feasible approaches from all directions. There are at least six different routes to the summit of Manaslu, the south face being the most difficult.

Mt. Manaslu Climb - First Ascent

Mt. Manaslu was first climbed on May 9 1956, by Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu. It is said that the British consider Everest their mountain, while the Japanese have a similar affiliation with Mt. Manaslu.

Mt. Manaslu Expedition 2026 and 2027

If you are looking for your first 8,000m peak Manaslu is worth considering. Access is relatively easy and the normal route quite straightforward and free from objective dangers. Manaslu is recommended by many leading adventure companies and a lead-up to Everest Expedition or K2.

Mt. Manaslu Expedition is not just a climb; it is an immersion in the Himalayan wilderness and ancient culture, a test to explore the inner strength and a testament to enduring the allurements of the Himalayas.

Mt. Manaslu Expedition 2026 Climbing Route

We will follow the North East Ridge Route as Manaslu Expedition Route. We start our expedition journey following the Budi Gandaki valley trail up to Samagaun (Sama Village). Our first acclimatization day will be at Sama Gaon scheduled at 3500 meters. We then trek Manaslu Base Camp height is 4800m. We follow the bamboo marker wands on the way to Manaslu Glacier. Using the fixed ropes set by Sherpas, we cross the serious crevasses and dangerous sections of Manaslu Glacier. We set our Manaslu Expedition Camp 1 at 5700 meters at the bottom of the North Peak right above the glacier on a protected area. Manaslu mountain climbing routes pass through the most popular trekking trail of Manaslu base Camp Circuit trek.

Mt. Manaslu Expedition North Ridge Route Map
Mt. Manaslu Expedition North Ridge Route Map

The climbing from Camp 1 to Camp 2 is the most technical section on Mt. Manaslu Expedition. Manaslu Expedition Camp 2 lies at the safe section of the climb on a relatively flat area at 6400 meters. Although, Camp 2 is situated above the icefall on a snowy terrace. there can be a lot of snow accumulation. The climb from Camp 2 to Camp 3 is the shortest distance and takes around 3 hours. Climbing to Camp 3 does not require any ladder crossings, however, there are a few crevasses that are roughly a half meter that need to be jumped. Our Manaslu Camp 3 will be at the elevation of 6800 meters just below the col to avoid the very strong winds. Camp 3 to Camp 4 is a long day climbing, and climbing up to Camp 4 is nearing the death zone. While stepping towards Camp 4, we have to climb for 3-4 hours on steep snow that is on a 50-55º slope and this section is a literally dangerous section. Finally, after 4 hours of climb, we reach Manaslu Expedition Camp 4 elevated at an altitude of 7400 meters. Now we head to the summit of Mt. Manaslu. We begin our summit bid at 1:00 am. if all goes well we reach the summit between 7-10 am.

How hard/difficult is Mt. Manaslu Expedition?

Manaslu Expedition is more technical and challenging than Cho Oyu Expedition and Shishapangma Expedition. As this is a more challenging summit than other mountains, this expedition is also the preparation for the Everest Expedition. Climbers are required to have excellent physical and mental preparation, a high level of climbing proficiency and altitude adeptness at a high elevation during the Manaslu Expedition. Experienced Sherpas and Climbing Guides of Makalu Adventure help you to achieve the summit of Mt. Manaslu.

"Avoid overexertion and breathlessness while acclimatizing, stay well hydrated, avoid alcohol, excess caffeine, salt and protein, your diet should be 70% carbohydrate above 3500m".

Great Service! Very good company Makalu Adventure for Expedition

I successfully climbed Mt Everest (8848.86 m). The climbing was much adventurous and challenging than other peaks I submitted before. Well it was definitely dangerous and thrilling but what made it easier and worth it was Makalu Adventures. I'm so glad my friend recommended me Makalu Adventure. The whole trip was so well organized, the sherpas (Phurba Onggel Sherpa and Dasange Sherpa) guided us all the way to the summit making the journey smooth. I had a lot of fun and the accommodation along with the food was great even in the higher altitude which I did not foresee. It was an experience to remember for a lifetime. Thank you Makalu Adventures for a great adventure. Great services

Wonderful experience of World's Highest Mountain Mt. Everest (8848.86 m) climbing

My name is Gabriella Nicola Nel, I just submitted Mount Everest with Makalu Adventure. It was an incredible experience; we did have some hiccups in terms of getting frostbite on the way down from the summit and I'd just like to thank Mohan and the Makalu Adventure team for organizing a long long rescue from Camp 3 which is extremely difficult and I believe that the company saved my life with a successful Summit. As well for the season which was a very dangerous season I'd just like to thank everyone from Makalu Adventure.
