Trip Overview

Everest or Solu-Khumbu region lies on the eastern part of Nepal. The region, which has some of the world's tallest Mountains, gained fame with the identification of the world's tallest peak, Mount Everest (8848m). Solu Khumbu is home to picturesque Sherpa villages (Lukla, Namche, Lobuche, Khumjung, Tengboche,Pheriche etc), Sagarmatha National Park- a UNESCO World Heritage Center and several high Himalayan peaks, including three of the 14 eight thousand meter peaks – Mount Everest(8848), Lhotse(8516m) and Cho Oyu (8210m). Other peaks in the region frequented by trekkers and climbers include Ama Dablam(6856m), Pumori(7161m), Lobuche(6119m), Cholatse(6440m), Kwangde(6011m), Mera Peak(6654m) and Island Peak(6173m).Everest Region is also the site for the highest skydiving event in the world, “Everest Skydive”.

ALTITUDE ACCLIMATIZATION

To get the most from your trek, and to stay safe, it is important to follow acclimatization guidelines. At Makalu Adventure, whenever possible, we follow the acclimatization formula set out by Drs Jim Duff and Peter Gormly; experts in Wilderness Medicine. "Above 2000m, altitude illness is a possibility and above 2500m it becomes common".

"As a rough guide, above 2500m the maximum daily height gain between sleeping altitudes should not exceed 400m, with a rest day every third day or after every 1000m of sleeping ascent".

"Avoid overexertion and breathlessness while acclimatizing, stay well hydrated, avoid alcohol, excess caffeine, salt and protein, your diet should be 70% carbohydrate above 3500m".

Great Service! Very good company Makalu Adventure for Expedition

I successfully climbed Mt Everest (8848.86 m). The climbing was much adventurous and challenging than other peaks I submitted before. Well it was definitely dangerous and thrilling but what made it easier and worth it was Makalu Adventures. I'm so glad my friend recommended me Makalu Adventure. The whole trip was so well organized, the sherpas (Phurba Onggel Sherpa and Dasange Sherpa) guided us all the way to the summit making the journey smooth. I had a lot of fun and the accommodation along with the food was great even in the higher altitude which I did not foresee. It was an experience to remember for a lifetime. Excellent service and a welcome by Makalu Adventure

I've known and worked with Mohan and Makalu Adventure for nearly 15 years. In that time I've led many treks and high altitude expeditions to Nepal (15 expeditions over 8000m and counting). His company provides an excellent service and a welcome that I look forward to every season. The Thamel Eco Resort is a center of tranquility in Kathmandu and the perfect place to start and finish the Himalayan Adventure. The staffs are now like family and I hope to return for many years with the guarantee of safety and security that he offers in the mountains.

Many thanks to Makalu Adventure for organizing this trip.

It was our first experience with Makalu Adventure, so we did not know what to expect. We chose rather unpopular but extremely beautiful route around Manaslu. We were overwhelmed by the surrounding beauty, majesty of the mountains and warm welcoming of local people. I recommend this trekking to anyone who wants to enjoy the silence and serene nature of Himalayas. Many thanks to Makalu Adventure for organising this trip. We had a responsible, competent and charming guide Shiva Bhandari and a great and strong SanuGanza porter. If we ever come back to Nepal for trekking, we would like to do it with the same team.

The organisation Makalu Adventure was perfect,

I had a most wonderful trek with great porter Dawa and superb guide Yanga. The organisation was perfect, could simply not be better! Prakesh was great, Mr Mohan is the perfect gentleman, everyone always ready to help and inform. Even unforeseen schedule changes were handled with a smile. I would recommend Makalu Adventure to everyone going to Nepal, and if you can ask for Yanga Rai as a guide, he's the best I ever had!

As always highly recommended Makalu Adventure

After my tour last year with Makalu I decided to visit Kathmandu again with my family and chose to book my day trip through Makalu. We had a day tour of Kathmandu with a drive to Nagarkot for a quick hour trekking for my family to get the taste of it. My family loved it from start of the day till the end we thoroughly enjoyed and were well looked after by Mr MOhan Lamsal and the guide, the whole day was busy but enjoyed it once again. As always highly recommended.

An absolutely incredible experience. Makalu Adventure was very well organized and delivered beyond expectations. They kept contact with me from the day I started enquiries and got back to me on all my questions. The package was put together exactly as I asked and everything was organized upon my arrival in Kathmandu. My guide was also a huge plus. He was very helpful, knowledgeable and professional. Since I am a female who traveled to Nepal alone this was a very important factor for me. I found the trek to be a life changing experience and I would highly recommend using Makalu Adventures.
