Makalu Adventure has its own three-star hotel in the heart of Thamel, the Thamel Eco Resort. Following a morning of preparation, you will travel by AC coach to Ramechhap for your flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Khumbu. Due to airport congestion most flights to Lukla are now via Ramechhap.
Over two days you will trek to Namche Bazaar, the bustling Sherpa capital where you will spend two nights for altitude acclimatisation, and visiting places of interest, the Namche Monastery, the Everest Viewpoint and the Sherpa Museum. From Namche you will leave the 'Everest trail' and visit the ancient Sherpa villages of Khunde and Khumjung. In Khunde you can visit the Sir Edmund Hillay hospital and in Khumjung the Hillary School and Visitor Center. That night will be spent in the small village of Kyangjuma with stunning views of Ama Dablam and the Everest group of Himalayan giants.
The trail to Tengboche contours high above the Dhudh Koshi (Milk River) before descending to Phunki Tenga and then climbing to Tengboche. You will spend two nights in Tengboche allowing time to explore the magnificent monastery, attend a Puja (service) and take a hike to Pangboche village. Pangboche is situated below Mt. Ama Dablam (6,856m), known as the Matterhorn of the Himalaya, and is a very popular mountain with experienced mountaineers. The small monastery in Pangoboche houses many ancient artifacts including what is said to be the scull of a Yeti, you can make your own mind up!
The relaxed walk out to Lukla will take three days with time in Namche Bazaar to enjoy a coffee, lunch and souvenir shopping. Back in Kathmandu you will have a day of guided sightseeing before your departure.
