Arrive in Lhasa by train/plane, capital of the mystical Buddhist Kingdom of Tibet. Our experienced guide & driver will meet you at the airport or train station with Tibetan Traditional presenting Hada ceremony, then transfer to hotel.
The rest of the day will be at leisure for you to relax and acclimatize.

Highlights: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street
Morning, visit Potala Palace, worldwide known cardinal landmark of Tibet, which was built in the 7th century by the famous Tibetan king, Songtzen Gampo.
It is the highest palace of the world, more than 3,700 meters above sea level. The massive structure itself contains a small world within it. Mostly it is known as the residence of the Dalai Lama lineages. The top of the palace called Golden Roofs. it's the best spot to bird-view the whole city.
Afternoon, visit Jokhang Temple, situated in the old section of Lhasa. King Songtzen Gampo built this temple in the mid-7th century A.D. Now it is one of the most sacred place for pilgrims all over the world.
The circuit around it called Barkhor Street, a famous local handmade crafts market, which is a good place to purchase souvenirs.

Highlights: Namtso Lake
As the second largest saltwater lake in China only after Qinghai Lake, Namtso Lake is the biggest lake throughout Tibet. Meanwhile, it is the highest altitude saltwater lake in the world. The water here is a storybook crystal-clear blue. Clear skies join the surface of the lake in the distance, creating an integrated, scenic vista. Soul of every visitor who has ever been here seems to be cleansed by the pure lake water.

On the way back to Lhasa, visit Yampachen Hot Spring. Besides the sightseeing, you can bath there at your own expense.1-2 hour is enough because of short of oxygen.

Today is the first day of Shoton Festival, you will be arranged to see Big Thangka displaying in the early morning at Drepung Monastery, watch the traditional Tibetan opera.
After dinner, you could watch the great celebration show at the Potala Palace Square.

To get the most from your trek, and to stay safe, it is important to follow acclimatization guidelines. At Makalu Adventure, whenever possible, we follow the acclimatization formula set out by Drs Jim Duff and Peter Gormly; experts in Wilderness Medicine. "Above 2000m, altitude illness is a possibility and above 2500m it becomes common".
"As a rough guide, above 2500m the maximum daily height gain between sleeping altitudes should not exceed 400m, with a rest day every third day or after every 1000m of sleeping ascent".
"Avoid overexertion and breathlessness while acclimatizing, stay well hydrated, avoid alcohol, excess caffeine, salt and protein, your diet should be 70% carbohydrate above 3500m".
