Trip Overview

Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek starts from a different destination. The Trek to Kanchenjunga via South Base Camp is easier than the Kanchenjunga North Base Camp. The trek starts with a direct flight of 45 minutes to Bhadrapur and a 40 min drive to Birtamod. Travellers need to take a good rest for the trek as the Kanchenjunga trek is strenuous as compared to other trekking routes. Kanchenjunga North Base Camp Trekking trail offers more exciting and challenging daredevil and popular organizing trips. The Kanchenjunga South Base Camp trek offers scenic views of forests, mountains, and Himalayan glaciers.

Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek Itinerary

  • Day 01
    Flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur (45 min). Drive to Birtamod
  • Day 02
    Drive from Birtamod to Taplejung.
  • Day 03
    Trek from Taplejung to Simbu. [8 hrs. approx]

    Today we start our trek from Taplejung to Simbu. The trek passes through the majestic trekking trail. We will trek for about 8 hours app today.

  • Day 04
    Trek from Simbu to Khesewa (2,100m approx). [5-6 hours]
  • Day 05
    Trek from Khesewa to Mamangkhe (1,786m).
  • Day 06
    Trek from Mamangkhe to Yamphuding (2,000m approx.).
  • Day 07
    Rest day at Yamphuding. Explore the village.
  • Day 08
    Trek from Yamphuding to Tortong (approx. 3,000m).
  • Day 09
    Trek Yamphuding to Cheram (3,800m).
  • Day 10
    Trek from Cheram to Ramche (4,600m).
  • Day 11
    Trek back from Ramche to Torongding. [6 to 7 hours]
  • Day 12
    Trek back from Torongding to Yamphuding.
  • Day 13
    Trek back from Yamphuding to Khebang.
  • Day 14
    Trek back to Khebang to Kamdime. [6 to 7 hours]
  • Day 15
    Drive back to Birtamod. [14 hours approx.]
  • Day 16
    Drive back to Bhadrapur [40-minute]. Drive or Fly to Kathmandu.

ALTITUDE ACCLIMATIZATION

To get the most from your trek, and to stay safe, it is important to follow acclimatization guidelines. At Makalu Adventure, whenever possible, we follow the acclimatization formula set out by Drs Jim Duff and Peter Gormly; experts in Wilderness Medicine. "Above 2000m, altitude illness is a possibility and above 2500m it becomes common".
"As a rough guide, above 2500m the maximum daily height gain between sleeping altitudes should not exceed 400m, with a rest day every third day or after every 1000m of sleeping ascent".
"Avoid overexertion and breathlessness while acclimatizing, stay well hydrated, avoid alcohol, excess caffeine, salt and protein, your diet should be 70% carbohydrate above 3500m".
