Trip Overview
Mt. Dhaulagiri, at 8,167m, is the seventh highest peak in the world. This spectacular peak’s name means the “White Mountain”. The Dhaulagiri Expedition lasts almost 7 weeks (47 Days) and costs USD 12,500 per person for Full Expedition Service and USD 7,500 for Base Camp Service. Climbing Mt. Dhaulagiri can be done via a number of routes; however the normal route is the Northeast Ridge.
Mt. Dhaulagiri was first attempted by a French team in 1950 but they abandoned their bid in favour of Annapurna I. Mt. Dhaulagiri was the last 8,000m peak in Nepal to be climbed. In 1960 a Swiss team successfully climbed the northeast spur. Supplied by a small glacier plane piloted by Ernst Saxer, the expedition finally ended the golden decade of Nepal’s giants by putting four Europeans and two Sherpas on the summit on 13th May 1960.
