Phurba comes from Okhaldhunga District in eastern Nepal and has worked with Makalu Adventure since 1998. He started as a kitchen helper, worked his way up and in 2003 he trained and qualified as a guide, initially guiding clients on trekking peaks. In 2005 he climbed Cho Oyu and since then he has guided on several 8,000m peaks including Mt. Everest and K2.
