Foreigners take part in Yeti Bike Race

Kathmandu, Sept. 10: Six foreigners took part in the Yeti Mountain Bike Race in Nepal. This is the first time a team of foreign bikers have taken part in an adventurous bike race.

A Spaniard, Apolo Esperanza Garcia, who is well known in Spain and abroad for his feat in adventurous sports of tourism sector, led the team of six foreigners, five from Spain and one from Italy.

The six foreigners under Garcia's leadership completed the arduous and challenging Yeti Mountain Bike race successfully. They started from Beshisahar of Lamjung and passed through Torang-La Pass and Bini to finally reach at Pokhara, Mohan Lamsal, managing director of Makalu Adventure told journalists at a press meet organized to inform about the mountain bike race.

At a programme organized on Saturday, Lamsal handed over trophies and medals to the six participants of the six participants of the grueling bike race that also included a woman. Lamsal informed that from the next year onwards, his association would invite bikers from all over the world to participate in the Yeti Mountain Bike Race, which would be held on September 15 every year.

The bike race would be organized with a view to establish adventurous mountain bike race as new tourism product of Nepal and spread the message about the new product all over the world, Lamsal added.

Taking with the Rising Nepal, team leader Garcia said that he would hope to lead many teams to take part in the adventurous sports events in Nepal because the country offers exciting opportunities for adventurous tourists.

"Nepal is an important country in terms of its natural heritages and our team felt very excited after coming here. The current team members have competed in bike races at the place near sea level and now they have competed in a race at an altitude above five thousand meters," Garcia said and added this would encourage other bikers from Europe and other places to come here and take part in the Yeti Mountain Bike Race.
