Country’s tourism promoted in Sichuan

In a bid to promote the country’s tourism sector, Nepal participated in the fifth Sichuan International Travel Expo (SCITE) held in Leshan, China from September 6 to 9.

“Nepal has received unprecedented religious and tourism mileage as Birthplace of Lord Buddha during the expo,” reads a statement issued by Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) today.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Rabindra Adhikari, led the official delegation of members of parliament; mayors of Lumbini, Tansen and Ramgram; officials from NTB and Lumbini Development Trust; and private sector members of the tourism fraternity.

“NTB coordinated the entire event in China,” as per the statement.

Minister Adhikari addressed the opening ceremony at the SCITE and visited the Nepal Pavilion in addition to holding several high-level meetings with the governor of Sichuan, mayor of Leshan and the heads of the famous Dado Zen temple and Leshan Buddha temple to discuss mutual cooperation and promotion of tourism in highly potential China market in the context of increasing outbound travellers from China.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between Leshan, the home of the biggest Buddha statue in the world, and Lumbini, Tansen and Ramgram for promotion of Buddhist tourism, as per statement.

“A special ceremony was held to hand over the holy soil from Lumbini to Leshan Buddha Museum where it was consecrated today.”

The Nepal Week, a week-long exhibition and sale of Nepali handicrafts with over 50 stalls, culinary delights, photo exhibition, live pottery and cultural dances were held for the Chinese public, as per the statement.

Minister Adhikari and the mayor of Leshan have expressed commitment to strengthen ties between Leshan and Lumbini to promote Nepal’s tourism in China. The promotion is the starting campaign for promotion of ‘Visit Nepal 2020’ in China.
