Involved in adventure tourism since 1979, Tengi is the senior trekking guide at Makalu Adventure and has been with the company since its inception. With little education Tengi started as a porter at the age of 14, he progressed to kitchen helper and went on to become a highly respected guide. There are few trails in Nepal and Tibet that Tengi has not guided groups over. Tengi’s village is near Salleri in the Solo Khumbu, home to many accomplished Sherpa guides and mountaineers. Tengi’s daughter, Tsering Dolker Sherpa, is following in her father’s footsteps and is now an experienced trekking guide, also working for Makalu Adventure.

Testimonials:

Tengi Sherpa and I have taken many groups into the mountains, but one trip in particular comes to mind; the high-level route from Makalu Base Camp to Chhukhung. This technical route involves crossing three high passes, two over 6,000m: Sherpani Col (6,155m), West Col (6,143m) and Amphu Labsta (5,845m). That year our group was the only one to make the crossing. Our success was down to Tengi’s knowledge, strength and management skills, he is a mountain master. Roy Francis MM FRGS.
