A Nepali / Tibetan bike trip like no other, superbly organised!
I was to start a Bike Tour Guide business, I wouldn't include a Lhasa to Everest Base Camp option in my brochure. It is an absolute nightmare to arrange!
However, Mohan and his excellent Team, overcome each and every hurdle which was thrown at us in organising this trip. Border closures, Visa application changes, Tibetan road closures, etc would not stop this trip from happening.......and they didn't!
The trip was a mountain bike tour from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp. Due to visa application changes initiated by the Chinese which meant remaining in Kathmandu for an additional two days, Mohan arranged two mountain biking trips in the Kathmandu foothills which was an added bonus.
Once in Lhasa, the Tibetan guide (Dorje) was extremely knowledgeable, making the visits to Tibetan monasteries even more appealing.
On the road, we were fortunate to have an experienced mountain bike guide (Alin, number 7 in Nepali national standings) who came in handy for any bike issues we had.
The food? Our Chef (Purna) should be on TV! The food he could magic up on a two-ring gas burner was phenomenal. Hats off to him!
Our Tour Guide leader (Junga) had a constant smile on his face and led the whole Team with respect and efficiency.
Both Junga and Alin cycled each and every 5,000mtr pass with us and still managed to erect and take down our camp each evening and morning (again, with smiles and laughter). Well done!
The standard of tents and support vehicles was great and the Team, as a whole, were very open to our requests.
Again, it must be a nightmare to arrange a trip such as this across two countries which have different (and changing!) border and visa requirements. Makalu Adventures took it all in their stride and got us all there and back safely.
I have no hesitation in saying......"Do Makalu!".
