"Kanchenjunga" is derived from the Tibetan word ‘Kanchen’ and ‘Dzonga’. ‘Kanchenjunga’ means “The Five Treasures of the Great Snows”, as this famous summit is comprised of five peaks:, Kanchenjunga I (8586m), Kanchenjunga West (8505m), Kanchenjunga South (8494m) and Kangbachen (7903m). These treasures represent the five repositories: gold, silver, gems, grain, and holy books of God.

Mt. Kanchenjunga Massif is the asset of Both India and Nepal, as the Massif lies on the border of Nepal and India. Among the five peaks of Mt. Kanchenjunga summit, two of the peaks namely Kanchenjunga West (Yalung) and Kangbachen are located in the Taplejung district of Nepal. However, the remaining three peaks, namely Kanchenjunga Main, Kanchenjunga South, and Kanchenjunga Central are located on the border of Nepal and India.
